ESRI GIS Content Bridge for SharePoint

Bridging Geo-Spatial – Content Boundaries
Many of today’s organizations face challenges managing the mass of information being utilized throughout the enterprise. This includes the ever increasing use of geo-spatial information such as interactive maps, GPS locations, satellite and terrestrial photography along with enterprise content in various repositories (file shares, document management systems, and more). These “islands of information” are typically isolated and are acted upon independently. By providing a “technology bridge” between these disparate knowledge sources, this information can be leveraged for a more efficient and coherent operating environment.

Real World Scenarios
“Hot Spot” Activity Views
By utilizing the GIS-Content Bridge, users can simply select a geographic area such as a county, or district, and view related project information. For example, elected officials or law enforcement can select a county of interest, and see information such as:

  • All road related work projects (including links to project collaboration sites)
  • Related documents residing in SharePoint, Hummingbird, or other repositories
  • People assigned/responsible for various projects
  • Budgetary spreadsheet relating to the county
  • Various photographs of easements, roadways, buildings, etc.

  • Capturing Photographic Data
Provide near real-time photographic updates to construction projects, work sites, and more using digital photography and GPS.Utilizing affordable GPS enabled cameras allows for the automatic collection of photographic information without the need to provide locations, etc. This photographic information can be combined with historical or supporting information for various items, such as construction progress, legal disputes, and customer feedback/support. Digital photographs can be uploaded quickly and easily into Hummingbird, SharePoint, or other file shares along with encoded GPS and XIF camera data.

If desired, “hot link” points can be created in the GIS system to correspond to the photos, to provide quick links directly to the photos from within ArcIMS.
